2. Write the Decision Makers
At over a quarter-billion dollars, there is no way the Juneau road will be built without the use of public money.
Write to your Congressional representatives and urge them not to set-aside special funding to construct the Juneau Road.
Contact information for national, state and local representative is to the right. Below is a sample letter that you are welcome to cut and paste.
Dear __,
I urge you to support continued ferry service in the Lynn Canal.
I believe building the road will have a detrimental impact on the local economy, Lynn Canal's unique environment and the character of our communties.
The proposed Juneau road is extremely dangerous, not supported by residents and will have no significant enconomic impact for the state. A road will not reduce state operation and maintenance costs for travel in the Lynn Canal cooridor.
The over quarter-billion dollars that it will cost to construct the road could be better invested in the current ferry system, fixing the roads we already have and upgrading our ports and habors.
Sincerely,
_______________
